Mole Valley Ramblers

- friendly walking in the heart of Surrey

We have been saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Bob Alcock, who had been a member of MVR for over 40 years. He joined Ramblers in November 1979 and became a member of Mole Valley Ramblers soon after it was set up in 1980.

Bob Alcock photoBob had been a stalwart of the group ever since, serving on the committee and leading numerous walks. In 2010 he became a Local Footpath Secretary under the auspices of Surrey Area.

Although in his eighties, he continued to lead walks and undertook his duties as a LFS conscientiously. In recognition of Bob's exceptional dedication to the Ramblers, they awarded him a Volunteer Certificate in April 2020. We had hoped to present Bob with the framed Certificate at on top of Leith Hill in April 2020 but the pandemic made this impossible. The presentation was eventually made in October 2020 on Brockham Green instead.

Bob died suddenly but peacefully in his beloved garden on 2nd July; he will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

We send our condolences to his wife Ruth, their family and to his many friends in Ramblers.
